performance management
To some people, performance management means collecting performance information, to others it implies a personal appraisal.
At XS NRG we’ve developed a Performance Management System that incorporates a wide range of different tools and activities used to drive optimal performance.
We define performance management as: “Taking action in response to actual performances to drive outcomes to an optimal level”
Action may be at individual, team, service, corporate or community level.
Improvement to outcomes should benefit service users but does not always mean increased service levels – sometimes better outcomes can mean delivering better value for money.
Reducing levels of service in one area may free up resources to be used more effectively elsewhere.
Good Performance Management Programmes will look different in different places, but effective organisations share some common characteristics. These are:
- clear and compelling personal, team and organisational goals
- real-time, regular, robust and relevant performance data
- can-do culture inspired by strong leadership
- agreed lines of individual responsibility
- balancing responsibility with authority
- strong team bonds
- clear performance management review, combining challenge, direction and support
- transparent set of performance rewards and sanctions
Our Performance Management Programmes analyse and improve your existing business management system to meet the requirements of effective performance management including:
- systematically deciding and communicating what needs to be done (aims, objectives, priorities and targets)
- a plan for ensuring that it happens (improvement, action or service plans)
- developing the means of assessing if this has been achieved (performance measures, balanced scorecards, KPI’s)
- information reaching the right people at the right time (performance reporting) so decisions are made and actions taken
- developing the skills, knowledge and attitudes to make great things happen.
We will fit these plans and actions within a framework of ‘plan, do, check, act’ that harnesses learning in a continuous cycle of improvement.
